Presenter Bio: Ian Miller is a Principal and Building Science Specialist at RDH Building Science, bringing technical rigor, innovation in scientific application of technologies, and restoration ingenuity. He is versed in critical building science fundamentals and applicable state-of-the-art technologies that can deliver climate-responsive, durable, and comfortable buildings to end users. His understanding of design and architecture at the intersection of building science fundamentals means he can optimize for value, efficiency, energy performance, and resiliency at every turn.
Presentation Description: This seminar will discuss the building science fundamentals of building control layers including vapour, air, thermal, and weather barriers, including how they work and common errors made during design and installation. Ian will cover the scientific principles explaining why these control layers are important and what the Ontario Building Code has to say about them, as well as showing real-world examples of failures he has been involved with investigating and repairing. The seminar will also discuss designing and building for durability, both for today's world and the changing climate of the future.
